Located about 15 miles West of Chicago, Western Springs is a charming suburb with easy and hassle free access to public commuting and major highways. Ranked second out of fifty ideal places to start a family and raise kids according to Business Week, Western Springs is popular for its number of parks and just a drive away from restaurants and shopping districts. This town also has highly ranked schools and low crime rate making it one of the best towns to settle down in Illinois.

Below are some of the notable key landmarks and amenities of Western Springs that makes it unique and ideal to live.

  • Western Springs Water Tower

Located in the center of Willow Springs, The Water Tower served as the town’s police station, town jail, village office and police magistrate court until 1957. The Western Springs Historical Society decided to convert the tower in 1966 and it opened as the town’s museum in 1970. At present, the Water Tower serves as official location for permanent and rotating exhibits. It features the 1890 train depot replica as one of its permanent exhibits as well as important papers from the Historical Society and of course, a good number of old town photos.

  • Lyons Township High School

The Lyons Township High School is divided into two campuses. Located just off the Willow Springs Road, the South Campus accommodates freshmen & sophomore grade levels while the North Campus is where the juniors and seniors are housed located off the Brainard Avenue. The U.S. News and World Report ranks Lyons Township High School no. 46 in its annual rankings in Illinois.

  • Grand Avenue School

Established in 1981, Grand Avenue School is a private owned school that services Western Springs, LaGrange and LaGrange Highlands. The school accommodates pre-school and grade school through the 5th grade. Grand Avenue offers all day pre-school, before and after school care, enrichment programs for kindergarten and summer camps.

  • Field Park Elementary School

Located at Howard Avenue, Field Park Elementary School is part of the school district 101 and they offer exciting academic programs from kinder through fifth grade. The school is ranked better than ninety-six percent of other elementary schools in Illinois based on recent data from SchoolDigger.com

  • Forest Hills Elementary School

Forest Hills Elementary School is another grade school under the school district 101 accommodating kindergarten through grade 5 and provides challenging academic programs. The average size per class is about 21 students.

  • Western Springs Metra Station

Western Springs is popular for its hassle free commuting. Located just across the street from Oberweis ice cream shop and Harris Bank, the Metra/Amtrack station will take you directly to the Union Station in downtown Chicago with stopovers in LaGrange, Brookfield, Riverside, Berwyn, Cicero, Western Avenue, and on Halsted.

  • Oberweis

Located right across the Western Springs train station, Oberweis is popular for its dairy products and has been in business since 1915. The shop provides a wide variety of products from its popular creamy ice cream to milk, shakes and juices. If you want to, they can deliver your milk to your home.

  • Western Springs Fruit Store

Western Springs Fruit Store has all the sweet fruit and fresh vegetables you need. Located in the center of the town just across the Metra/Amtrack station, the Fruit Store has been in business since 1927. Its original hanging scale can be found on display in the Water Tower Museum which it donated in 1977. You can visit the store anytime and enjoy their wide selection of fresh produce. The Fruit Store also provides customers with gourmet gift baskets depending on their budget.

  • Casey’s Market

Established almost four decades ago, Casey’s Market still is one of the best places that offer the freshest and finest meats in town with a varied selection of deli, seafood, poultry and a wide assortment of pre-cooked frozen grub and homemade sides. For thirty-five years, Casey’s has the best butchers in Western Springs and a wide selection of deli products.

  • Kirschbaum’s Bakery

Kirschbaum’s has been in business for more than sixty years and this family owned bakery is conveniently located in the down-town Western Springs area. They regularly offer cakes for all occasions as well as a large variety of baked treats including cookies, pastries and freshly baked breads.

  • Spring Rock Park

Western Springs is popular for its large number of public parks. Among them is the Spring Rock Park which is located just a few blocks West of the down-town Western Springs area. Among the park amenities to be enjoyed include a playground, ideal picnic areas scattered all throughout the park, pavilions for various events and sports activity storage facilities. The park also has well maintained walking paths, charming flower gardens, drinking fountains, basketball courts, football/lacrosse/soccer fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits among others.
